An international index. It starts now, in Cyprus.

The Intentional Nights Index Out of 100 children under 18, how many slept last night with a phone in their room?

Paphos, Cyprus ·

I ask people this question on the street, on camera. It is part of my street interviews about screen time. Now I am asking you.

There are no results yet. The index starts here, in Paphos, and it will grow one country at a time. I will publish the first results when there are enough answers.

Why night

During the day there is always a reason for a phone to be close. At night there is none. Where the phone spends the night is something a family decides, or never gets around to deciding. That is what "intentional" means here: a night that somebody chose.

Why the bedroom

The bedroom is the one room where a child is alone with the phone. It is also a question with a simple answer. The phone is either in the room or it is not.

Why a guess

Nobody knows the real number yet, and I will not pretend to. Your guess shows what you think is normal. Later we can put the guesses next to what people tell us about their own homes.

Your answer

Only the guess is required. Everything else is optional.

In your home: last night, when your child fell asleep, was there a phone in the room they slept in? (optional)

Answers are counted together. No single answer is published on its own.

I am also writing a book about attention with my father, who is a psychologist.
